These tiny Western Screech Owls (M.K. Macfarlanei) nest right next to the Forest House Studio fence line every spring. We see or hear them a few times each summer. There are very few of these small raptors left in British Columbia, so the neighbours celebrate every time fluffy members of a new generation are noticed. In the time Neilson has lived by the forest she has only seen one small family each year. There was one year when there was no evidence of these birds visiting the park at all, but fortunately one pair did return the next season.
